The path to become a Freelance On-Line CueTutor with Cued Speech UK:

• Pass Level One Exam (£85)
• Pass Level Two Exam (£125)
• Train-up a willing volunteer from scratch to Level One exam readiness
This person may then take the actual exam (FREE of CHARGE for the Volunteer) OR take part in an informal on-line interview where their cueing skills will be checked at single word, phrase and sentence level and they will be asked about their understanding of cueing and their experience of being taught by you. This informal training is usually given face to face but could be done on-line, feel free to take as long as you and your volunteer need – it is more important to explore how you would take someone through this process, be creative and to see if you like doing it. Support is of course available including ready-made teaching point films to support your own explanations if you require them.

• Join the On-Line Professionals Foundation Training as an observer
This is currently a six week training, one evening a week for approximately one hour. You do not need to observe all of the lessons but try to follow one group through as much as you can and stay in close contact with the training lead to discuss questions and progress. The course teacher may offer you the chance to take on aspects of the teaching if you feel ready.

You may sign the CueTutor Freelance Contract at this point and receive an official ____@cuetutors email address. You may then be offered students, usually in this order:

• Post Foundation Pre-level One students (one to one)
• Post Level One Pre-level Two students (one to one or small groups)
• Foundation Learners (one to one)

If you are comfortable and successful at these levels then you may wish to start working with parents and bigger groups. The CueTutor contract covers on-line teaching and face to face work where appropriate, all work is negotiated and tracked through the CS office and support is always available, you will be asked to share links to the recordings of your lessons at least to begin with.

For those who do not have any formal teaching qualification we would ask that you undertake a short teacher training course City and Guilds 6502-31 Award in Education and Training Level 3 within your first year of working with us.
